Already into the second week of covid surge testing on Oahu, major testing on the H-3 freeway and at sites all over the state have intensified. Even as the Feds expressed concern about using the freeway for non-transportation purposes, DOT forged ahead with the much needed testing as planned. With at least a death per day, it’s a race to save lives. Testing sites vary each day and will rotate over the next two weeks. Click on this link and select “Hawaii” and the site for the latest schedule and to pre-register. People who test positive for COVID should refer to this information sheet.
Cameras on H-3 tunnel Tuesday during COVID testing.
Today I checked out the H-3 testing site. It was well organized and if you are pre-registered it takes about 10 minutes; if not, you can register on site and it will take you longer, of course. If you haven’t gotten your test and can drive to H-3 you might consider driving on the beautiful freeway and get your free test on Thursday (9/3) from 9:00 – 2:00 p.m. If you do plan to go to the H-3 tunnel see yesterday’s message for directions.
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH (DOH) REPORTS: More Updated Information
Health care providers and the public have been urging DOH to provide more information on the clusters and other information to help us prevent and protect ourselves from the covid spread. Gathering and analyzing the data on COVID-19 and reporting timely to the public in easily understood terms has been a challenge. We are starting to see more meaningful data and weekly updates on the DOH Disease Outbreak Control Division website. See updates here.
WE’RE READY FOR TRAVELERS WHEN WE REOPEN: Mandatory Online Travel Form
Beginning today (9/1) all travelers to Hawaii must fill out a mandatory Safe Travels application in advance of their flight. The application screens people for health, wellness, and requires information and agreement to quarantine. Collecting the required health and travel information is just one part of a multi-layered screening process which includes arrival temperature checks, and secondary screening for those with symptoms or temperatures of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Once the information is entered within 24 hours of departure, travelers will receive a QR code via email, mobile device or can be printed so airport screeners can scan and verify upon the passsenger’s arrival. A direct link to the application can be found here. To find out more, click here.
