Independence Day Weekend

July 3, 2020

HAPPY 4TH TO EVERYONE!

Celebrate our Nation’s 244th Birthday!  Enjoy the birth of our Nation and our independence…

The City’s holiday schedule for July 3 is here and continue on to enjoy the weekend. Splash into our July summer and some fun in the sun – but carefully!  With 20 new COVID-19 cases reported today – the most cases in one day thus far—and with the upcoming holiday weekend, do practice social distancing and mask up.  But summer doesn’t have to be as subdued as you might think. See these tips and below activities you might enjoy this weekend:

  • FUN RUN. Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club is offering the Wave Start Practice Run on Sunday, July 5, 7:00-9:30am, at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand area. It’s not a race. It’s a test run for future races using social distancing. Here’s your chance to be part of getting Oahu race events going again. Interested? Sign up at: https://mprrc.com/ or call (808) 295-6777.
  • RETAIL RELIEF. With the cancellation of one of Oahu’s most spectacular fireworks events, Ala Moana Center still offers some shopping fun while making it a time to care for the community and support local businesses. Sometimes retail relief is all you need. For more information, click here.
  • SAFE BACKYARD BARBECUING. Family time is at its finest during the 4th of July holiday weekend and even more precious during a pandemic. Here are some tips to be COVID-safe while chomping on that barbecue chicken.
  • VIRTUAL BON DANCE. On July 4th at 6:30pm you can watch the premiere of Moiliili Hongwanji’s Virtual Bon Dance video. For more info, call (808) 949-1659 or click here.
  • TRAVEL THE ISLANDS. Visit and support our Neighbor Islands but everyone in your party must complete the state’s mandatory interisland travel and health form. You can submit it online within 24 hours of flight departure. If you have your ticket visit the Hawaii Department of Health travel website for the digital fillable travel and health form.  Once you answer all the required questions sign and submit it, you’ll receive an email with a QR code.  Bring the code to the airport (either on your electronic device (preferred) or printed) within 24 hours.  If you have interisland travel questions call 2-1-1.

NOTICE:  No more Free EV Parking
As of midnight yesterday (July 1), the free Electric Vehicle (EV) parking ends at state and county lots and meters. You must now pay the posted parking fee. See
here for information on the revised EV benefits or email the City’s Department of Transportation Services at parking@honolulu.gov.

NOTICE: Ala Moana Satellite City Hall Reopened
The Ala Moana Center joins the other eight Oahu satellite city halls in opening to the public but on a strictly appointment-only basis.  Make your in-person or driver licensing center appointment at www.alohaq.org.  See here for details.
